Four days in Liguria
A walking week on the Ligurian Riviera that began with a city stroll in Varese in Lombardy and then headed for the coast: a coastal walk to Sestri Levante, the famous Cinque Terre trail from Corniglia to Vernazza, and finally Monte Zatta high above the Passo del Bocco. About 36 kilometres and 1,170 metres of ascent across four stages.
The stages
Day 1 — a stroll through Varese (Lombardy)
Day 2 — coastal walk to Sestri Levante
Day 3 — Cinque Terre: from Corniglia to Vernazza
Arguably the best-known coastal path of the Cinque Terre, here on the stretch between the villages of Corniglia and Vernazza.
Stunning scenery — but extremely crowded in high season: in Levanto we found no regular parking, and the first train ran an hour late. The trail itself thins the crowds out a little; for the way back we took the boat, which was far more relaxed.
